Singapore's student exchange program aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders with a deep understanding of India's culture and economy. The Confederation of Indian Industry Young Indian chapter in Singapore (CII Yi) plans to expand its student exchange program to 300 youths annually. This initiative is a strategic move to build upon the historical ties between India and Singapore, with Singapore already being the largest foreign direct investment hub for India.
CII Yi Chairman Mohamed Irshad emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive understanding of Indian culture and economy, stating, 'We need to build on a century of historical links between the two countries.' The program has already facilitated exchanges for 40 students from universities, including the 'India Talent Read Programme,' through collaborations with the Ministry of Trade Industry, Enterprise Singapore, and the National Youth Council.
This year, 40 students from India's higher learning institutions have also participated in a similar exchange program in Singapore. Looking ahead, CII Yi aims to exchange 300 students annually to gain a deep understanding of Indian society, including tier 2 and 3 cities, fostering stronger relationships and a youth-focused Indian market base in Singapore.
The Indian community in Singapore, particularly financial sector experts, will be integrated into the CII Yi platform. Irshad highlighted the program's focus on building partnerships and historical connections, stating, 'We are building on the partnership and illustrious historical linkages.'
The India-Singapore Youth Summit, a significant milestone, aims to strengthen ties between the youth of both countries, involving students, professionals, and entrepreneurs. Dinesh Vasu Dash, a Singapore minister, noted the summit's impact, stating, 'The India Experience Immersion Programme has enabled students to explore India.'
Avnish Patnaik, Chief Representative and Head of CII in Singapore, emphasized the summit's unique platform, saying, 'The future of the India-Singapore partnership must be shaped by young professionals, entrepreneurs, and students.' This inclusive approach allows for knowledge exchange between diverse groups, including CEOs, professors, and undergraduate students.
Approximately 100 delegates from Singapore and India participated in the day-long summit, marking a significant step towards fostering a new generation of leaders with a deep understanding of India's culture and economy.
