What is bang bang sauce?
It’s a creamy, spicy, mayonnaise base sauce that is one of the most popular sauces from Bonefish Grill restaurant. Mayonnaise is flavored with Thai sweet chili sauce and sriracha for an extra kick. Add honey if you want to mellow down the heat.
This sauce is very similar to theboom boom sauce recipe. The creamy, spicy flavor of the bang bang shrimp sauce is perfect for dipping any fried appetizers such as bang bang shrimp, coconut shrimp, and chicken nuggets, which can be drizzled on tacos.
Why does this recipe work?
- It’s creamy, sweet, spicy, and ridiculously delicious! You’ll need 3 basic ingredients to make this dipping sauce. It takes less than a minute to make the sauce.
- Best paired with fried seafood or crispy chicken nuggets. You can serve it with roasted broccoli too!
- The addictive bang bang shrimp recipe uses bang bang shrimp sauce as the main ingredient.
Ingredients
Our version of bang bang shrimp sauce uses –
Ingredients notes
- Mayonnaise – use good quality mayonnaise. I recommend full-fat mayonnaise for this sauce.
- Thai sweet chili sauce – use any sweet chili sauce you like. I have an amazing recipe for Asian sweet chili sauce.
- Sriracha – for heat, helps balance some of the richness and creaminess of the mayonnaise.
- Rice vinegar – for a tangy flavor.
- Pepper (optional)
- And honey(if you like to reduce the spiciness)
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: To a bowl add mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar, pepper, and honey.
Step 2: Mix it well. The consistency of the sauce depends on the mayonnaise used. This sauce should not be too thick or too runny. If the sauce turns out thick, adjust the consistency by adding a little water.
Serving suggestions
This sauce is the star of bang bang shrimp.
You can also use it in bang-bang shrimp tacos.
Perfect for dipping any fried appetizers coconut shrimp or crispy chicken nuggets. You can serve it with roasted broccoli too!
Useful tips
- This recipe can be easily doubled.
- Make it milder or spicier, just the way you like it. To make a milder version of the sauce skip sriracha and add more sweet chili sauce (it has less heat). If you like it spicier, add more sriracha and feel free to add cayenne pepper too.
- To make the sauce more flavorful include garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
Storing tips
Store in air tight container and refrigerate for about 10 days.
